    Wheels for the World

Wheels for the WorldJan. 29 - Feb. 7

For the 4th year WCIF is joining with Joni and Friends’ Wheels for the World as we collect wheelchairs, all metal walkers, crutches and metal canes. Wheels for the World aims to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the disabled around the world by providing wheelchairs and sharing the love of Jesus Christ. They also do this by connecting the disabled with the church through creating disability awareness and by educating and training the local churches in disability ministry. As a result many have placed their trust in Christ, and are experiencing new life and purpose with their new mobility.

People of Wheels for the World

How it all works: Locally wheelchairs, all metal walkers, metal crutches and metal canes are collected. After these items are picked up by Joni and Friends they are sent to a correctional facility where they are restored by carefully trained inmates. The wheelchairs are then shipped overseas where distribution and evangelism teams custom fit each wheelchair for each recipient and train him or her in wheelchair use and upkeep. Each recipient also receives a Bible and the message of God’s love from a team member. Speaking and teaching teams equip the local churches and communities in disability ministry, and construction teams build accessibility for the disabled, modify homes, churches, and clinics, as well as meeting other construction needs.

Wheels for the World RecipientsHow you can help:

Even if you only have one hour you can help! In the last three years through the WCIF collection nearly 400 items were collected for Wheels for the World. You can help reach more people this year with the Good News of Jesus through Wheels for the World. To volunteer or contribute equipment contact Martha at WCIF 725-9243.

How to make Christmas last all year

    by Woodrow Kroll

In my reading of the Christmas story this year, I made note of five ways to keep the spirit of Christmas fresh in my mind and in my heart throughout the year. Each is found in Luke 2.

    1. Keep the joy in your soul.

When the angel announced the birth of the baby Jesus to the shepherds, he said, “Fear not: for, behold I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people”. (Luke 2:10, KJV) Joy came because of the angelic announcement that God had provided a Savior. It’s not the announcement that brings joy, but the birth itself. Christmas presents bring momentary happiness; but lasting joy comes only from receiving God’s present to us-His Son, Jesus.

    1. Keep the praise on your lips.

When the angel of the Lord announced the long-awaited Messiah, “suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God” ( Luke 2:13, KJV). These angels had nothing better to do than praise God. Neither do we.

    1. Keep the glory in your life.

“The angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid” (Luke 2:9, KJV). The glory spoken of here is the Shekinah glory of God. So, how are we to keep God’s glory shining in our lives if we haven’t seen it? Remember His promise, “The Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly” (Psalm 84:11, KJV).

    1. Keep the story on your tongue.

If you saw the angel and heard the announcement of the birth of the Savior, if you experienced the Shekinah glory shining down on you, could you keep quiet about it?
The shepherds couldn’t. Of course, if we focus on all the trappings of Christmas, it is easy to be quiet about the real story. But if the story is important to us, if we’ve been changed by it, we love to tell it.

    1. Keep the Savior in your heart.

The essence of the angelic announcement was “Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11), KJV). There are two proper responses to this glorious news. You can tell the story to others; the shepherds did. Or you can ponder the events of Christmas in your heart; that’s what Mary did. We should do both.

Suggestion: Check yourself on these five guidelines on the first day of the next three months. Mark your calendar.
